'Lovely' Restaurant Inside 120-Year-Old Abbey In Northern Westchester Added To Michelin Guide

A Mediterranian-inspired eatery in Northern Westchester built inside of a 120-year-old abbey has earned its place on the prestigious Michelin Guide.

The Apropros Restaurant & Bar, located at the Abbey Inn in Peekskill at 900 Fort Hill Rd., is now an all-new addition to the Michelin Guide, which helps readers discover the best restaurants by listing establishments well-received by its reviewers.

In its write-up, Michelin reviewers called the eatery a "lovely inn and restaurant." 

"The grounds, and the views, are worth the trip alone but the wine cellar boasting an impressive collection and the farm-to-table kitchen are equally rewarding," the reviewers wrote, also praising the establishment's Mediterranian and Italian-inspired cuisine. 

The restaurant, which boasts itself on using local ingredients that "speak for themselves," has brunch, lunch, dinner, and beverage menus available. Dishes highlighted by Michelin reviewers include lamb ragù placed on thick pappardelle and grilled petite filet of beef served with a green peppercorn sauce. 

Other dishes include halibut served with pea puree, creamy fennel, and leek couscous; grilled hangar steak served alongside chilled corn salad, Jonah crab, roasted peppers, herb butter, and crispy onion; and orecchiette pasta with fennel sausage and broccoli rabe pesto. 

Visitors can also look forward to enjoying one of the eatery's unique cocktails such as the "Pine-Abbey Express," consisting of Hudson Valley gin, pineapple, lime, and hibiscus. 

In addition to earning the favor of Michelin reviewers, the eatery has also garnered praise on Yelp.

"The venue cannot be talked about enough. You take these winding back roads up to a beautiful view at a historic abbey," wrote Lauren L. of Sleepy Hollow in a five-star review. 

She continued, "The service is always top-notch. I recommend this restaurant highly to all my family and friends. Can't wait to get the chance to try their brunch on my next visit."
